Electricity consumers across Pakistan may face higher electricity bills in the coming months due to rising fuel prices and increased power generation costs. According to reports, electricity distribution companies have requested an increase of Rs. 2.5624 per unit under the monthly Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) mechanism. If approved by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), the additional charges could be included in consumers’ electricity bills. The proposed increase is linked to higher fuel costs during September. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G) has submitted the request to NEPRA for consideration. Rising international fuel prices, expensive imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), and increasing electricity production expenses are among the major reasons behind the proposed adjustment. This potential increase could place an additional financial burden on households, businesses and industries already struggling with inflation and rising living costs. However, the final decision will depend on NEPRA’s approval.
