Gilgit Baltistan has reported its first polio case in seven years. The case was detected in the Diamer district, where a 23-month-old child has been confirmed to be infected with the poliovirus.

‎

‎The National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad has also confirmed the presence of the poliovirus in the affected child, indicating a re-emergence of the virus in the region.

‎

‎It is important to note that this is the first time in seven years that the poliovirus has been detected in Gilgit Baltistan. So far in 2025, a total of 11 polio cases have been reported across Pakistan.
