The preparation of the new Ghilaf-e-Kaaba is currently in progress at the Kiswa factory, where 159 skilled workers are crafting the sacred covering. Made from premium silk, gold, and silver, the Ghilaf takes around ten months to complete. The raw materials, including silk dyed black on-site, are imported from Italy and Germany.
Each year, a new Kiswah is draped over the Kaaba, honoring the sanctity of the holy site. The old Kiswah is respectfully distributed to charitable organizations worldwide. Traditionally, the Kiswah was replaced on the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah, but since 2022, the replacement takes place on the first day of Muharram.
The new covering consists of four separate panels and a special curtain for the Kaaba’s door, using approximately 850 kilograms of black-dyed silk, 120 kilograms of gold wire, and 100 kilograms of silver wire.
