Karachi Authorities Enforce Temporary Beach Ban Over High Tide Risks

KARACHI: The city administration has imposed an eight-day ban on public access to several beaches in Karachi, invoking Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, in response to warnings of high tides and dangerous sea conditions.

Effective from June 6 to June 13, 2025, the restriction applies to KANNUP Beach, Sunerah Beach, Mubarak Village, Turtle Beach, and Dua Chowk Beach. The decision was prompted by a formal request from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), which cited a rise in drowning incidents and hazardous wave activity during the ongoing monsoon season.

Under the imposed ban, all recreational activities including swimming, bathing, and diving are strictly prohibited to prevent any loss of life. Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi described the move as a precautionary measure to safeguard the public during this critical period.

Law enforcement agencies have been directed to ensure strict compliance, with violators facing legal action under Section 195(i)(a) and Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Officials noted that while the restriction is temporary, it could be extended depending on sea conditions. Citizens have been urged to fully cooperate with the authorities and refrain from visiting the restricted coastal areas until the ban is lifted.
