Seminar on “Eliminating Tobacco Use in Pakistan is Possible” Held at Federal Urdu University

Karachi (Neha Ashraf)  A significant seminar titled “Eliminating Tobacco Use in Pakistan is Possible” was held on Monday, June 16, 2025, at the Abdul Haq Campus of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science, and Technology, Karachi. The event was hosted by Dr. Irfan Aziz, Assistant Professor at the Department of Mass Communication, and was attended by a large number of students.

‎The seminar featured prominent guest speakers including Qazi Khizar (Vice Chairman, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan), Mir Zulfiqar Ali (Director, Workers Education and Research Organization – WERO), and Jafar Mehdi (Director, Research Institute – ARI). The speakers highlighted the harmful effects of tobacco use and urged the youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle by staying away from smoking.

‎Several faculty members, including Dr. Sharjeel Naveed, Dr. Samreen Faisal, Amna Ameer, Zareen Akhtar, Ayaz Ahmed, and Dr. Nasir Mehmood, were also present. They encouraged the students and emphasized the importance of holding such awareness-raising seminars regularly.

‎At the conclusion of the event, students pledged to take practical steps against tobacco use and stressed that such programs play a vital role in spreading awareness.
