Karachi Rickshaw Association President Demands Immediate Removal of Section 144, Warns of Protest

The President of the All Karachi Qingqi Rickshaw Association has called for the immediate removal of Section 144 from 20 major roads in Karachi, describing the action as unfair and detrimental to the livelihood of rickshaw drivers.

Speaking to the media, the president emphasized that Qingqi rickshaw drivers are being unfairly fined, and FIRs are being filed against them, despite their operations being completely legal. He cited the case of a student, who is also involved in the rickshaw business, where an FIR was registered against him, severely impacting his government record and personal character.

The association made it clear that their vehicles are legal, registered with the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), and authorized by the Sindh government. However, they claimed that the media continues to label their business as illegal without any proper justification.

The association expressed its willingness to engage in dialogue with the authorities to find a solution, emphasizing that they are not seeking confrontation, but rather a peaceful resolution. They also urged the authorities to focus on genuine violations such as unlicensed driving and improper parking.

The president warned that if negotiations do not begin within the next seven days, they will organize a large-scale protest involving 20,000 to 25,000 drivers on the streets of Karachi. He further stated that a committee will be formed soon to select a protest location, and the drivers will raise their voices peacefully for the respect and survival of their trade.

The Qingqi rickshaw drivers also appealed to the government to enforce laws in a fair and just manner, stating that they are not opposed to action against real violations but want their rights and livelihoods protected.
