ISLAMABAD – June 24, 2025: In the wake of a dramatic escalation in Gulf tensions, Pakistan has expressed strong solidarity with Qatar after Iran launched a missile strike targeting the U.S.-operated Al-Udeid Air Base near Doha.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed Islamabad’s concern during a phone conversation with Qatari Ambassador Ali Mubarak Ali Essa Al-Khater on Monday. Terming the attack an “unfortunate development,” the premier condemned the strike and assured Qatar of Pakistan’s unwavering support for its sovereignty and security.

The prime minister called for urgent diplomatic engagement and emphasized the importance of de-escalating regional tensions. “Restoring peace in the Middle East is in the interest of all nations,” he stated.

Qatar has since confirmed that its air defense systems successfully intercepted the incoming missiles, and no casualties were reported. The Iranian missile barrage, launched on June 23, was widely seen as retaliation for recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear infrastructure.

In a parallel move, PM Shehbaz also contacted the Saudi ambassador, underlining Pakistan’s intent to coordinate closely with Gulf partners to contain the fallout and prevent further conflict.

The Pakistani government’s swift response reflects its balancing act between key regional players, as tensions between Iran, the U.S., and Gulf nations enter a dangerous new phase.
