Multan

July 12, 2025:

Several cities across Punjab, including Multan, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Chiniot, Rahim Yar Khan, Lodhran, Rajanpur, Jhang, Khushab and Sargodha, were lashed by intense rainfall today, triggering widespread concerns about urban flooding and structural damage.

In Tharparkar, sudden heavy rains also swept across the region, while in Hangu, a tragic incident unfolded during a downpour when a house roof collapsed. According to local authorities, one person lost their life and another sustained injuries after getting trapped under the rubble.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted continued rainfall across parts of Punjab, northeastern Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. The weather system, described as “seasonal but intensified,” may persist for the next few days.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a high alert for potential flash floods and urban inundation in Punjab, KP, and Balochistan. The advisory, in effect until July 17, warns of possible landslides in hilly areas, sudden water surges in streams and rivers, and damage to infrastructure in low-lying regions.

NDMA officials urged residents to stay vigilant and follow updates from local authorities, particularly in vulnerable districts where water levels are already rising. Relief departments have been directed to remain on standby, and emergency hotlines have been activated across affected provinces.

As monsoon activity intensifies, urban centers in southern and central Punjab are bracing for more rain-related disruptions, with local governments racing to unclog drainage systems and prepare for emergency response
