In a bold and celebratory move, the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has announced a total cash prize of Rs8.2 million for the national under-16 men’s volleyball team following their sensational and unbeaten run at the Asian U16 Volleyball Championship 2024 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The young Pakistani squad stunned Asia’s volleyball powerhouses, including a nail-biting 3-2 victory over defending champions Iran in the final—marking Pakistan’s first-ever title at this level. The win has been hailed as a watershed moment for the country’s youth sports landscape.

> “This is not just a victory; it’s a statement. Our youth can take on the best in the world if given the right support,” said a PSB official during the announcement ceremony in Islamabad.

Breakdown of Rewards

Under the revised 2024 cash award policy:

Each of the 12 players will receive Rs600,000, amounting to a total of Rs7.2 million.

The coaching staff will collectively receive Rs1 million, equivalent to 50% of the players’ reward pool.

PSB spokesperson Khurram Shahzad confirmed that the process of verifying players’ credentials is underway, after which the funds will be directly transferred to individual accounts.

Heroes’ Welcome Back Home

When the team landed at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, they were greeted like national heroes. Friends, families, and fans showered them with garlands, claps, and chants of “Pakistan Zindabad!” Videos of the heartwarming reception quickly went viral on social media.

Several players were visibly emotional, while coaches expressed hope that this moment would lead to greater investment in youth volleyball and indoor sports infrastructure.

> “This is just the beginning. These boys have made the whole country proud,” said the team’s head coach, who dedicated the victory to the nation’s young athletes.

A Turning Point for Pakistan Volleyball

This remarkable achievement has sparked fresh calls for systemic reforms and long-term support for youth athletics in Pakistan. Sports analysts say the victory proves that Pakistan can dominate even non-cricket sports—provided talent is nurtured with consistency, facilities, and proper exposure.

As the volleyball team basks in the national spotlight, many are now looking to the South Asian Games and future Asian-level competitions with renewed optimism.
