Ata Tarar: Evidence Available Against May 9 Rioters, No Defence Provided in £190 Million Case

Islamabad — Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ataullah Tarar has said that there is clear evidence against those involved in the May 9 incidents, including CCTV footage identifying the culprits. He stated that the suspects were well known and that solid proof exists of their involvement.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Tarar emphasized that in the £190 million corruption case, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) failed to present any evidence in his defense.

“PTI leaders claim they were advocating for a ‘State of Madinah’, but that has nothing to do with the £190 million case. Religion cannot be used to justify corruption,” he said.

Tarar urged PTI to come clean and explain how billions of rupees, linked to a business tycoon, were allegedly misused. He stressed that the case is not political but purely a matter of financial misconduct.

Responding to a question, the minister acknowledged that the PTI founder’s children had the right to run a campaign in his support. “But wherever they go, they should inform people that their father was convicted in a £190 million corruption case. They should carry a fact sheet and clarify that this is a corruption matter, not a political one,” he added.

He criticized ongoing efforts by PTI to portray the case as politically motivated, reiterating that the facts and court judgments clearly point to corruption.
