ISLAMABAD: Health experts have raised serious concerns over the growing rates of obesity and depression among Pakistan’s youth, revealing that around 38 million people in the country are currently affected by obesity.

The issue was discussed at a seminar titled “Unprecedented Partnerships for a Healthier Tomorrow”, focused on raising awareness and encouraging collaboration to tackle obesity, according to ExpressTribune.

Jakob Linulf, Denmark’s Ambassador to Pakistan, stressed the importance of joint efforts in fighting health challenges. He praised the role of Danish companies like Novo Nordisk in supporting Pakistan’s healthcare system.

Dr. Javed Akram, President of the Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine, highlighted that obesity is now officially recognised as a disease and is putting serious pressure on the country’s health system.

Rashid Rafiq Butt, General Manager of Novo Nordisk Pakistan, shared details about a new GLP-1-based therapy for weight management and called for a united response from government, healthcare providers, and communities to address the crisis.
