The number of children living with HIV in Pakistan has reached approximately 7,500.
According to statistics from the Federal Ministry of Health, children account for approximately 12 percent of the 62,000 HIV patients currently receiving treatment.
According to the data, Sindh has become the largest center for HIV among children, with approximately 4,200 children living with HIV registered in the province.
The federal government has sought nutritional assistance from the United Nations Children’s Fund, World Food Programme, World Health Organization, and Nutrition International.
Plan to Provide Special Nutritional Supplements to Children Living with HIV:
According to officials, children suffering from severe malnutrition will be provided with special nutritional supplements and continuous medical monitoring.
Parents and caregivers will also be provided with guidance regarding the nutritional needs of children.
Experts stated that children living with HIV require 10 to 20 percent more energy and protein than other children.
They added that improving nutrition among children living with HIV can further improve treatment outcomes.
