Former India captain Virat Kohli dismissed all speculation about a potential return to Test cricket after scoring a brilliant, match-winning century in the first ODI against South Africa.
Indian media had claimed that the BCCI might discuss a possible U-turn from Kohli regarding Test cricket. However, speaking after the match, the 37-year-old made it absolutely clear that he will now play only one format and has no intention of coming back to Test cricket.
Kohli said, “I am 37 now and I need time for recovery. I’m focusing on just one format. After playing more than 300 matches, you understand where your fitness and reflexes stand.”
He added that as long as a player performs well, stays mentally sharp, and remains physically fit, they can continue playing.
Earlier, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia had also termed the reports as baseless.
He stated that everything being said about Kohli’s Test return is merely rumor, and no such discussion has taken place.
It is worth noting that Kohli retired from Test cricket in May this year. His Test career includes 123 matches, 9,230 runs, and 30 centuries.
