Karachi/Lahore — A landmark collaboration between the Aligarh Institute of Technology (AIT) Karachi and the University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Lahore is set to begin following their interaction at the Lahore Science Mela 2025, marking a major step toward advancing Pakistan’s AR/VR research landscape.

The partnership emerged during the event organized by the Khwarizmi Science Society (KSS), where UET Lahore’s Mechatronics & Control Engineering Department showcased innovative AR and VR projects from their Extended Reality Lab. Their demonstrations—covering construction, architecture, and biomedical applications—attracted strong interest from students and educators nationwide.

UET faculty members commended the creativity of AIT Karachi’s Civil and Architecture students, describing their ideas as highly impressive and well-suited for future collaborative projects. Dr. Muhammad Ahsan Naeem, Director of the Extended Reality Lab, formally invited AIT to join joint research initiatives and explore practical AR/VR applications.

AIT Convener Syed Muhammad Mohsin Kazmi congratulated the Civil and Architecture Department for their performance, highlighting it as a sign of the institute’s academic growth. Principal Shahid Jamil added that the partnership will enhance AIT’s research capabilities and strengthen its national and international presence.

Department Head Engr. Madiha Younus and Engr. Syed Saad praised their students, emphasizing their commitment to turning innovative concepts into functional AR/VR experiences.

Under the collaboration, UET Lahore will provide technical assistance, while AIT students will develop 3D models using SketchUp and Autodesk Revit for integration into UET’s research experiments—offering hands-on exposure to cutting-edge technologies.

The Punjab government has announced an innovative “Libraries on Wheels” project for government schools in Lahore, aiming to promote reading habits and improve access to educational resources among students. The initiative is designed to bring books and digital learning tools directly to schools, particularly benefiting students who have limited access to library facilities. According to official details, the project is estimated to cost Rs198 million and will introduce a modern mobile library system across government schools in the provincial capital. Under the plan, 85 electric vehicles will be purchased and converted into mobile libraries. These vehicles will travel to schools carrying educational materials and digital resources for students. Each mobile library will be equipped with 20 modern tablets, enabling students to access digital learning content, educational applications, and online study materials. Education officials believe that combining traditional books with technology will create a more engaging learning environment and help students develop stronger reading and research skills. The initiative reflects the Punjab government's broader efforts to modernize the education sector and encourage a culture of reading among young learners. Authorities expect the project to enhance educational opportunities, support classroom learning, and provide students with greater exposure to both printed and digital knowledge resources.
