Bollywood actress Kajol recently sparked a lively debate after suggesting that marriages should come with an “expiration date” and an option for renewal. The remark was made during her ongoing OTT talk show, where she reflected on how the meaning of relationships has evolved over the years.
During the show, co-host Twinkle Khanna posed a thought-provoking question: Should marriages have an expiry date? Kajol agreed, while Khanna and guests Vicky Kaushal and Kriti Sanon held a different view.
Kajol explained, “I genuinely believe this. How can anyone be sure they married the right person at the right time? A renewal option makes sense. If there’s an expiry date, people won’t have to suffer for too long.”
As Kajol’s comments triggered discussions online, her husband and acclaimed actor Ajay Devgn shared his own perspective in a separate interview. He expressed concern about how modern love has become “ordinary.”
Ajay said, “Love is not what it used to be. The words ‘I love you’ are used so casually now that they’ve lost their meaning. In our time, saying it was a big deal. Today, people don’t understand the weight of those words.”
Actor R. Madhavan also echoed Ajay’s point, recalling how previous generations treated love with sincerity, where even signing a card carried emotional depth.
Ajay further added that digital communication has changed expressions of affection: “Every message ends with a heart emoji or just the word ‘love’.”
Kajol and Ajay Devgn first met on the sets of the 1995 film Hulchul and tied the knot four years later, becoming one of Bollywood’s most admired couples.
