After the sale of fake and substandard medicines at medical stores in Punjab, the Punjab Drug Control Board has issued an alert regarding five medicines.
Testing revealed that specific batches of the medicines were found to be fake and substandard. The report disclosed that certain multivitamins for bones and calcium were fake, and counterfeit multivitamins of an Islamabad based pharmaceutical company are being sold at medical stores.
According to the Drug Control Board, a well known cough syrup was found to be substandard and adulterated. In addition, a specific pain relief injection was also found to be substandard, and the presence of particles in the injection was revealed.
According to the Drug Control Board report, the pain injection was manufactured in Lahore while the cough syrup was produced in Karachi.
Moreover, two injections used for animals were also found to be substandard. The amount of active ingredients in the medicines was not found to be according to the required standards. The veterinary medicines were produced by pharmaceutical companies in Lahore and Karachi.
On the other hand, the Punjab Health Department has ordered the immediate recall of these medicines from medical stores.
