Pakistan is observing Ashura today with solemn mourning processions and Majlis-e-Aza (mourning gatherings) being held across the country to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his companions in Karbala.
In Lahore, the central Ashura procession was taken out from Nisar Haveli inside Mochi Gate. The procession will pass through its traditional routes and conclude at Karbala Gamay Shah later in the evening.
In Karachi, the main Ashura procession will commence from Nishtar Park at 10 am. The mourners will march along designated routes before the procession concludes at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar.
In Quetta, the central Ashura procession will begin from Alamdar Road. Strict security measures have been put in place, with mobile phone and internet services suspended and a ban imposed on pillion riding to maintain law and order.
In Peshawar, all Ashura night processions concluded peacefully. A total of 16 processions were taken out in the city last night to mark the occasion.
In Rohri, the traditional 9th Muharram “Nau Dhall” procession passed through its historical route and reached Karbala Maidan. The procession will proceed towards Shohada Graveyard after Zuhr prayers today.
In Multan, more than 25 processions, including the historic “Ustad-Shagird” Tazias, will be taken out around 11 am, following their traditional routes.
In Gujranwala, the central Ashura procession will begin from Imambargah Gulistan-e-Marefat.
In Mithi, Sindh, the Ashura procession will commence at 10 am, while in Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, the central procession will begin at 11 am from Bait-ul-Huzn Imambargah.
Strict security arrangements have been made across the country, with law enforcement agencies deployed to ensure peaceful observance of the day.
