On the occasion of Ashura 1447 AH, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif issued special messages to the nation, paying tribute to the unparalleled sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala.

Message from President Asif Ali Zardari:

In his message, the President described Ashura as a symbol of sacrifice, truth, and unwavering resolve. He said this day commemorates the supreme martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his loyal companions, which has become an everlasting emblem of resistance against falsehood.

“The martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA) gifted us with a timeless tale of truth, loyalty, and sacrifice, which has guided humanity across all eras,” the President remarked.

He added that the tragedy of Karbala shines like a beacon, illuminating the path of truth and righteousness even amidst the darkest of times.

“Imam Hussain’s message remains alive to this day, teaching us the significance of standing firm on principles and never bowing to oppression and tyranny,” President Zardari emphasized.

Referring to the challenges Pakistan faces, he stressed the need for the nation to embrace Imam Hussain’s message of freedom and justice, while promoting brotherhood, love, tolerance, and national unity. He prayed for Pakistan’s stability, prosperity, and for the country to become a cradle of mutual love and harmony.

Message from Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif:

The Prime Minister called Ashura one of the most significant and thought-provoking days in Islamic history. He said that the battle fought in Karbala on the 10th of Muharram was not merely a conflict but a perpetual message that continues to awaken the conscience of humanity.

“Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), along with his family and devoted companions, laid down their lives to uphold truth, justice, and the dignity of faith. They never bowed before falsehood,” the Prime Minister stated.

He said the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA) reminds us that the true spirit of Islam lies in human dignity, justice, compassion, adherence to principles, and freedom.

“Karbala teaches us that the path of truth may be tough, but it is the only path that leads to God’s pleasure, peace of heart, and eternal success,” he added.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif further emphasized that Pakistan is currently grappling with numerous challenges, including economic difficulties, societal tensions, and the need for national unity. He urged the nation to draw inspiration from the life and character of Imam Hussain (RA).

“We must adopt honesty, tolerance, patience, sacrifice, and principled living in our lives to transform Pakistan into a prosperous and self-reliant welfare state,” he concluded.
