Barcelona president Joan Laporta has finally broken his silence on the speculation surrounding Lionel Messi’s potential return to the Catalan club, calling the idea “emotionally beautiful but practically unrealistic.”
During a recent interview with Catalunya Radio, Laporta said the club deeply respects Messi’s legacy but has no immediate plans to re-sign him as a player.
> “Out of respect for Leo, our professionals, and our members, it’s not the time to play with unrealistic expectations,”
Laporta said.
Messi’s Emotional Visit
Messi, now 38, made a surprise visit to the renovated Camp Nou earlier this month while in Spain for promotional events. During his tour of the stadium, he told reporters that Barcelona “will always be home” and that he hopes to “return one day — not just to say goodbye as a player.”
His words fueled fresh rumors of a possible short-term reunion with the club where he spent over two decades, winning 34 major trophies.
