The body of Dr. Varda, who was reportedly abducted from the District Headquarters Hospital in Abbottabad, has been recovered from the Lari Banota area. According to District Police Officer Haroon Rasheed, three suspects — including the doctor’s friend and her husband — have been arrested, while a fourth suspect is still being sought.
The DPO stated that the victim was strangled to death, and her body was buried near Thandiani. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report.
Investigators revealed that Dr. Varda had entrusted 67 tolas of gold to her friend two years ago. The suspects allegedly pawned the gold and obtained Rs. 5 million, and later avoided returning it despite repeated requests. On December 4, the doctor reportedly left the hospital with her friend in a car, after which she went missing.
Dr. Varda was serving as a medical officer at the DHQ Hospital.
Meanwhile, following protests by doctors over the killing, negotiations between demonstrators and district authorities concluded successfully, leading to the end of the protest. Police confirmed that terrorism charges have been added to the FIR on the doctors’ demand.
