Mystery deepens in Gulshan-e-Iqbal deaths as autopsies completed; son remains unconscious

Investigations are underway into the mysterious deaths of three women— a mother, daughter and daughter-in-law— whose bodies were recovered from an apartment in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Block 1. Their autopsies were completed late Sunday night and the bodies were subsequently shifted to the Chhipa morgue.

According to police surgeons, blood samples and tissue specimens from multiple organs have been collected and sent to the laboratory for chemical and forensic analysis. Officials stated that the exact cause of death is being withheld until lab reports are received. No visible signs of violence were found on the bodies.

Police have decided to register a case under murder provisions on behalf of the state. Investigators say initial findings suggest suspicious involvement of the unconscious son and the head of the household.

Forensic teams are scheduled to revisit the apartment for further examination. The son, identified as 30-year-old Yaseen, remains hospitalized but is out of danger; however, he is not yet in a condition to record a statement.

Police have already taken the preliminary statement of the family’s head, Iqbal, but officials say several inconsistencies have raised concerns. According to investigators, the daughter-in-law, Maha, appears to have died nearly 72 hours before the discovery, yet no one informed police or relatives. The daughter, Samreen, reportedly died most recently.

Officials suspect the women may have ingested or been given a toxic substance, though the cause will be confirmed only after chemical examination.

Police stated that Iqbal was residing in the apartment and informed his sister, Zarina, about the deaths almost three days later. Zarina then alerted her brother, Aslam, who reached the flat and contacted the police helpline. Upon arrival, police found the women lying on beds in separate rooms, suggesting they died in their sleep.

The family had recently moved to this apartment from Ranchore Line. Maha, the daughter-in-law, was reportedly pregnant and belonged to Islamabad.

Investigations are ongoing, and statements of the building’s residents and security staff will also be recorded.
