Kota, Rajasthan – Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has landed in legal trouble after the Kota District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission issued him a notice over a pan masala advertisement allegedly being misleading.
The complaint was filed by senior advocate and BJP leader Inder Mohan Singh Honey, who alleged that the advertisement promotes “saffron-infused pan masala,” a claim he says is economically implausible given saffron’s high cost. The notice also cites concerns that the ad encourages consumption of a product linked to serious health hazards, including oral diseases and mouth cancer, particularly among young people.
Salman Khan, who serves as a brand ambassador for Rajshree Elaichi, is required to respond formally to the court by 27 November 2025. The pan masala company, Rajshree Pan Masala, has also been issued a notice.
Consumer rights experts say the case highlights the responsibility of celebrities in endorsing products, particularly those with potential health risks, and stresses the importance of truthful advertising.
The court’s decision could set a precedent regarding celebrity endorsements of products under strict regulatory and public health scrutiny.
