According to a study, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in breast cancer screening reduces cases of dangerous and late stage cancer.
In the UK, it is estimated that regular screening saves about 1,300 lives from breast cancer every year.
Breast Cancer Now says that in the 1990s, one in every seven people died from this disease, while today this rate has fallen to one in 20.
At present, two specialists are required to review every mammogram screening, yet sometimes cancer still goes undetected.
However, if AI is used in this process, screening can be carried out safely and effectively by just one specialist, and its accuracy can be further improved.
