Scientists have issued an urgent warning about hair extensions. According to scientists, analysis has revealed that they contain dozens of cancer causing chemicals.

‎In an emergency warning about hair extensions, scientists disclosed the presence of dozens of harmful chemicals.

‎It is worth noting that hair extensions favored by many celebrities, including Australian model Elle Macpherson, US President Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump, and singer Taylor Swift, give the appearance of thicker and more attractive hair.

‎Experts at the Silent Spring Institute in the US state of Massachusetts have now discovered several concerning chemicals in these extensions, even in those made from human hair.

‎During this research, the team of scientists tested 43 popular products sold online for a wide range of chemicals.

‎Their analysis found traces of dozens of chemicals, including flame retardants, phthalates, pesticides, styrene, tetrachloroethylene, and organotins.

‎It is concerning that previous research has shown these substances are linked to cancer, hormonal disruption, developmental problems, and negative effects on the immune system.

‎Dr Alicia Franklin, the lead author of the research team, said that companies rarely disclose the chemicals used to achieve these properties, leaving consumers unaware of potential health risks from long term use.

‎She further said that these fibers sit directly on the head and neck, and when they are heated for styling, the chemicals can be released into the air and inhaled by users.

‎It is worth mentioning that whether clip in, tape in, weaves, or microlinks, hair extensions are now extremely popular in the United Kingdom and the United States.
