Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed gratitude over the free heart surgeries of more than 10,000 children from across Pakistan under the Chief Minister Punjab Children Heart Surgery Program. Under the program, free heart surgeries were performed on 250 children from Azad Jammu and Kashmir, 107 from the Federal area, 34 from Gilgit Baltistan, 28 from Balochistan, and 27 from Sindh, while the highest number, 425 children, were from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz attended a special ceremony held on the completion of 10,000 surgeries under the Children Heart Surgery Program. On this occasion, she also inaugurated the new ICU of the Children Hospital. During the ceremony, Maryam Nawaz sat among the child patients and expressed affection toward children who had undergone heart surgery.
Provincial Minister for Specialized Healthcare Khawaja Salman Rafique briefed the Chief Minister and said that 10,331 children have undergone surgery under the Children Heart Surgery Program so far.
Vice Chancellor Masood Sadiq, while briefing on the Chief Minister Punjab Children Heart Surgery Program, said that 50,000 children are born with heart disease every year and 25,000 require immediate surgery.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz increased the number of cardiac surgeons to 12 and cardiac physicians to 34 at Children Hospital Lahore. Under the Chief Minister Transplant Card, 800 cochlear transplants and 200 bone marrow transplants of children have been completed. Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz was also shown a special informative film on the Children Heart Surgery Program.
