Karachi | Rustam Ali :
A local court in Karachi has rejected the police’s request for an extension in the physical remand of 10 suspects arrested in the Lyari building collapse case and has ordered them to be sent to jail.
The suspects, including Additional Director General of SBCA and others—Zargham Haider, Syed Irfan Haider Naqvi, Ashfaq Hussain, Muhammad Jalees Siddiqui, Syed Faheem Murtaza, Asim Ali Khan, Faheem Ahmed, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Raheem Hussain Shah, and Taj Muhammad—were produced before Judicial Magistrate South, Kulsoom Sehato, after their remand ended.
The investigation officer told the court that the building’s records are still missing and asked for more time to investigate. However, defense lawyers argued there’s no evidence that the building was in bad condition and that the investigation officer could get the needed records from the relevant department.
The court rejected the request for more remand and sent all suspects to jail.
