Following a shooting incident during an event at Sydney’s beachfront, Cricket Australia temporarily eased its regulations due to the emergency situation.
Players of the Big Bash League side Sydney Sixers were allowed to use mobile phones after the incident so they could check on the safety of their families and close relatives. At the time of the shooting, the Sydney Sixers players were in the middle of their warm-up session.
Under standard anti-corruption rules, the use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited before or during matches, and players’ and support staff’s phones are usually collected prior to games. However, considering the seriousness of the incident, authorities made an exception and allowed players access to their phones.
It is worth noting that Sydney Sixers were scheduled to face Perth Scorchers in their opening Big Bash League match in Perth.
