Violence and obstruction against medical staff by organized armed groups in Pakistan rose more than three percenters in 2024 compared to the previous year, with most incidents targeting vaccination campaigns.
According to the Safeguarding Health in Conflict Coalition (SHCC) report, a total of 39 incidents of violence or obstruction against healthcare services were recorded in 2024. In comparison, 12 such cases were reported in 2023 and 16 in 2022.
The SHCC an alliance of over 40 organizations working to protect healthcare workers and services in conflict-affected areas linked this surge to broader instability and rising violence in the country.
In terms of fatalities, the report noted that at least 15 healthcare workers lost their lives last year, a sharp rise from 3 deaths in 2023 and 5 in 2022.
