Substandard quality has been found in ten well known medicines including life saving drugs in Punjab.

‎According to reports, samples of several well known medicines being sold in the province were sent to laboratories for testing, where the report found their quality unsatisfactory. After the matter came to light, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan took immediate action and stopped the sale and use of specific batches.

‎Sources said that the medicines declared substandard include those used for allergies, heart diseases, skin infections, cold and flu, and eye treatment.

‎The allergy medicine Daisy and the heart medicine Escard are also included in the list. Similarly, the use of the skin disease medicine Kenadex and cold medicines Cepizine and Rozen has been stopped.

‎Eye drops Nifen and an injection used for the treatment of fine blood vessels also failed to meet the required standards in testing. The relevant medicines were manufactured in industrial areas of Karachi and Manghopir, and in factories located in Sundar and Raiwind Road in Lahore.

‎According to officials, the process of recalling the mentioned batches from the market has begun and further legal action is under way. Health experts say that patients should consult a qualified doctor before using any medicine.
