A man lost his life early Wednesday morning after flash floods swept through Dallas, submerging vehicles and prompting multiple water rescues across the city. The incident occurred under the I-635 bridge near Park Central Drive, where two vehicles became trapped in rapidly rising floodwaters. While one driver managed to escape, first responders had to wait for water levels to recede before discovering the deceased man inside the second vehicle.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office. Authorities have also not disclosed how long the vehicles were submerged or what led the drivers into the floodwaters.
The National Weather Service had issued a Flash Flood Warning for Dallas County, which remained in effect until around 3 a.m. Wednesday. Overnight storms dropped more than four inches of rain in some parts of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, leading to dangerous road conditions and multiple high-water rescues.
Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to five water rescues across the city overnight, including three involving multiple vehicles stranded in high water. The department operates two dedicated swift water stations and several other stations equipped with fast water boats and rescue gear to respond during severe weather events.
Looking ahead, muggy air is expected to return Thursday night into Friday, with clouds keeping temperatures in the 80s on Thursday. Extra sunshine on Friday will push temperatures back into the 90s, with a heat index near 100. Storm complexes are possible later this week, including early Saturday morning. A stronger disturbance is also possible Saturday night into Sunday morning, bringing higher coverage of heavy rain, lightning, and severe wind risks. Weekend temperatures are expected to be in the low 90s.
The National Weather Service advises against walking or driving into high water, cautioning that the condition of the road beneath the water is unknown. Their safety slogan is: “Turn around, don’t drown.”
