A heated debate has erupted online after Indian-origin MAGA commentator Dinesh D’Souza defended JD Vance, who recently said he hoped his Hindu wife, Usha Vance, might one day embrace Christianity. D’Souza backed Vance, saying that “every true Christian” would wish for their spouse to share their faith and adding that his own ancestors in India were low-caste Hindus who converted to Christianity to escape oppression.

However, users quickly called out D’Souza for contradicting his own past statements. In his book “Becoming American,” he had described his family as Brahmin, India’s priestly caste. Critics accused him of twisting his ancestry to fit his political narrative, reigniting discussions on religious conversion, caste discrimination, and identity politics both in India and among the Indian diaspora in the U.S.
