A recent study has revealed that the habit of drinking soft drinks daily can be harmful not only to physical health but also to mental well-being, as these beverages can affect gut bacteria and increase the risk of depression.

‎According to research published on a medical website, drinking soft drinks every day can negatively impact a person’s mental peace.

‎The study found that soft drinks contain a high amount of sugar, which increases some bacteria in the gut while reducing others. When certain bacteria multiply excessively, they cause inflammation in the body, which affects brain health.

‎The study included 405 individuals who were already suffering from depression and compared them with 527 healthy participants.

‎Results showed that people who consumed soft drinks had an 8% higher likelihood of developing depression, while in women, the risk increased further to 16%.

‎Experts noted that even after accounting for factors such as body weight and height, the link between soft drink consumption and depression remained.

‎However, the study did not conclusively prove that soft drinks directly cause depression it is also possible that individuals already suffering from depression tend to consume more soft drinks.

‎Experts advise limiting the consumption of soft drinks, especially among women, to support better mental health. They also emphasized that further research is needed to determine whether reducing soft drink intake can lower the risk of depression.
