Strong tremors of an earthquake were felt in Multan and several other cities of Punjab on Tuesday, prompting residents to rush out of homes and offices in panic.
According to the Meteorological Department, the quake measured 4.8 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter located 126 kilometers west of Multan at a depth of 55 kilometers underground. Tremors were also reported in Lahore, Khanewal, Vehari, Muzaffargarh, and adjoining areas of Multan.
A spokesperson for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said that all district administrations across Punjab had been placed on high alert, and building inspections were underway to assess any possible damage. The PDMA’s provincial control room and district emergency operation centers are monitoring the situation round-the-clock.
So far, no major loss of life or property has been reported. However, authorities have urged citizens to immediately report any damage or emergency situation to the PDMA helpline at 1129.
