Renowned Pakistani actor Naumaan Ijaz has strongly criticized the recent electricity tariff hikes, calling the 200-unit slab policy a form of “bullying.” In a passionate social media post, he highlighted the struggles of an average citizen in scorching heat, constantly checking the electric meter, the sun, and their children, with no relief in sight.
According to Express News, the intense summer heat combined with power outages and sky-high bills has pushed many households into despair. Recently, NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) announced revised electricity tariffs:
-
1 to 100 units: Rs. 10.54 per unit
-
101 to 200 units: Rs. 13.00 per unit
-
Above 200 units (non-protected users): Rs. 22.44 to Rs. 47.69 per unit
Ijaz urged the government to “abolish the 200-unit trap” and show mercy to the people. He warned that such pricing schemes are crushing the average citizen under the burden of electricity bills.
Although NEPRA has stated that these new rates will only be applied after official approval, public frustration is already running high. Naumaan Ijaz’s post resonated with many who are battling both heatwaves and financial stress.
