Karachi: Explicit content was briefly displayed on digital advertising screens installed along a busy road in the upscale Defence area, triggering strong public reaction and concern.
According to officials, digital billboards installed on Khayaban-e-Ittehad were allegedly hacked by unidentified individuals, resulting in the broadcast of inappropriate material for a short duration. The incident caused alarm among commuters and residents in the vicinity.
The incident reportedly occurred near Abdul Sattar Avenue, where passersby recorded videos of the content displayed on large screens and shared them on social media, leading to rapid circulation online.
Upon receiving information, relevant authorities promptly intervened and shut down the affected screens to prevent further broadcast. As a precautionary measure, several digital advertising screens installed on other major arteries of DHA, as well as on Shahrah-e-Faisal and Karsaz Road, were temporarily switched off. A comprehensive security audit of the systems has also been initiated.
Investigations have been launched jointly by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency and the Cyber Crime Unit. Officials stated that technical evidence, including system logs and digital records, is being examined to identify those responsible and ensure legal action.
