Faisalabad’s Air Quality Reaches Alarming Level, Declared Most Polluted City in Pakistan
Faisalabad has been declared the most polluted city in Pakistan as air quality levels deteriorated sharply on Wednesday. According to data from the Air Quality Index (AQI), the city recorded an alarming level of 262, placing it in the “hazardous” category.
Environmental experts warn that such high pollution levels pose serious health risks, particularly for children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions. Smog, vehicle emissions, and industrial waste are said to be the main contributors to the poor air quality.
Residents of Faisalabad have expressed growing concern over breathing difficulties and eye irritation, while doctors are advising people to wear masks and limit outdoor activities.
Meanwhile, environmental organizations have urged the Punjab government to take immediate action, including stricter emission controls, the reduction of industrial smoke, and the promotion of cleaner transportation.
Other major cities, including Lahore and Karachi, also reported unhealthy AQI levels, but Faisalabad’s pollution index remained the highest in the country, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive air quality management.
