Renowned Pakistani qawwal Sher Miandad Khan became the victim of a jewellery theft this week after his Lahore home was broken into while he and his family were away attending a wedding.
According to police, the incident took place in the Chuhng area, where Miandad’s family lives. When the family returned, they discovered that jewellery — later estimated at around six tolas — had gone missing. What initially looked like a routine burglary quickly took a different turn once investigators began questioning people close to the household.
Police say the theft was allegedly carried out by a domestic worker employed in the house. Officers moved fast, arresting the suspect shortly after the complaint was filed. During interrogation, the woman reportedly led police to the stolen jewellery, which had been hidden in the backyard of her own home.
Authorities have recovered the jewellery in full, and a case has been registered. Further investigation is underway to determine whether anyone else was involved or aware of the theft.
Sher Miandad — known for his powerful qawwali performances and belonging to one of Pakistan’s most respected musical lineages — has not issued a detailed public statement yet, but sources close to the family say they are relieved the suspect was caught quickly and the valuables were recovered.
The incident has sparked conversations online about rising domestic theft cases and the need for better background checks for household staff.
