ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Friday strongly condemned the police violence against journalists at the National Press Club (NPC), calling it an unacceptable and regrettable act.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to the NPC to express solidarity with the media fraternity, Fazlur Rehman said that the incident of police brutality against journalists was deeply saddening and could not be justified under any circumstances.
“The police stormed the National Press Club, assaulted journalists, and subjected them to violence. Such actions cannot be tolerated in a democratic society,” he stated.
He emphasized that journalists are peaceful professionals who understand their responsibilities and boundaries. “Every premise holds its own sanctity. The journalists were not out in the field or violating any law they were within their rights and space,” he added.
Fazlur Rehman reiterated his support for the journalist community, saying their protest was legitimate. “We stand shoulder to shoulder with journalists in this difficult time,” he affirmed.
