KARACHI – In a significant development, the investigation into the death of a young man, allegedly killed in the custody of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), has been handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
According to SSP AVLC Amjad Sheikh, who has been given additional charge of the SIU, the case has been transferred from the South Police to the FIA to ensure a fair and transparent investigation. He confirmed that the complete case record, including the suspect and evidence, will be handed over to the FIA on Monday.
The youth, identified as Irfan, was reportedly taken into custody on Wednesday, and his family was informed of his death the following evening around 7 PM. The family raised serious concerns over the police investigation and demanded justice.
Protesters, including the victim’s relatives, staged a demonstration near Sohrab Goth, blocking both tracks of the main road to protest the authorities’ failure to register a case on their behalf.
Meanwhile, the SHO of SIU lodged a case at the Saddar Police Station against an investigation officer and other personnel for negligence under the charge of manslaughter. Two police officials — an ASI and a constable — have already been arrested. The SHO stated that all those found involved will be brought to justice.
