ISLAMABAD — The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency has registered a case against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi under cybercrime laws, accusing him of spreading false and misleading information aimed at damaging the reputation of state institutions.

According to reports, the case was filed at the Cyber Crime Reporting Centre in Islamabad on the complaint of a citizen. The FIR alleges that Chief Minister Afridi shared videos containing false, baseless, and provocative statements targeting national security institutions.

The complaint further states that these videos, circulated on social media, were designed to incite public sentiment and undermine confidence in state organs. It adds that the chief minister made misleading remarks during a media talk outside Adiala Jail, which were later posted on the official Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) social media pages.

Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the origin and impact of the content circulated online.
