Pakistan has successfully conducted its first liver transplant for a liver affected by colon cancer, marking a significant milestone in the country’s medical history.
The groundbreaking surgery took place at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad, where a woman from Karachi underwent a liver transplant after colon cancer had spread to her liver.
Doctors diagnosed the woman with cancer in the final part of her large intestine, which later metastasized to her liver. In a first-of-its-kind procedure in Pakistan, her entire cancer-affected liver was removed and replaced with a portion of her husband’s liver.
According to medical experts, the woman’s liver was completely damaged due to cancer. In a life-saving act, her husband donated the left lobe of his liver.
Sources confirm that the patient has now fully recovered from cancer and is living a normal, healthy life.
