Floods Inundate Punjab and Sindh, Thousands Rescued

Severe flooding has submerged vast areas of Punjab and Sindh, forcing over 430,000 people to be rescued by boat, according to provincial authorities. Entire towns, including Jalalpur Pirwala, remain underwater, while officials weigh cutting a section of the M-5 motorway to divert floodwaters.

Water levels at barrages in Sindh are showing signs of decline, yet relief operations continue as vulnerable communities along the Indus River face heightened risk. The Senate’s Climate Change Committee has urged that millions of affected families be brought under federal support programs to ease growing hardship.

Delays in aid distribution and damage to infrastructure have intensified the crisis, leaving flood-hit populations exposed to food shortages, homelessness, and health threats. Emergency teams are working around the clock to manage inflows, open spillways, and coordinate relief.
