Dr. Shabbir Chaudhry of Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, has been suspended by the Punjab Health Department after an FIR was registered against him for allegedly forcefully entering the hospital’s operation theatre and performing surgery on a patient without consent.
According to details, the case was registered two days ago, and following the development, the Health Department acted under the PEEDA Act to suspend Dr. Shabbir, directing him to report to the Specialized Healthcare Department.
The police report states that Dr. Shabbir entered Jinnah Hospital without notifying the Health Department. He is also accused of misappropriating hospital equipment worth over Rs. 12.1 million.
Earlier, the disappearance of operation tables, beds, air conditioners, wheelchairs, and furniture from Jinnah Hospital had prompted the Health Department to take notice. A three-member inquiry committee submitted a shocking report to the Specialized Healthcare Department, confirming the loss of these items, causing significant damage to the national exchequer.
Following the report, a show-cause notice was issued to Dr. Shabbir Hussain regarding the missing equipment, warning that if no explanation was provided within seven days, unilateral action would be taken against him.
