Israeli forces have detained former Jamaat-e-Islami senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan while he was aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian convoy carrying medical and food supplies to Gaza, officials confirmed on October 2.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO), the government through its Embassy in Jordan is making every possible effort to ensure the safe and early release of the former senator. The FO said Ahmad is expected to return to Pakistan within the next few days, adding that, under local legal procedures, he will be presented before a court before his release.
Mushtaq Ahmad Khan was leading a five member Pakistani delegation on the Global Sumud Flotilla, which comprised over 40 civilian boats carrying nearly 500 parliamentarians, lawyers, and activists from around the world. The flotilla set sail with the mission to deliver essential humanitarian aid to Gaza amid the ongoing blockade.
The FO reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the rights and safety of all Pakistani citizens involved in international humanitarian missions, emphasizing that diplomatic efforts remain underway for Ahmad’s safe and dignified repatriation.
