Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has categorically dismissed reports circulating on social media regarding a possible change in the presidency or the introduction of a 27th constitutional amendment.
During a media talk in Rohri, Sindh, on the eve of Ashura, Naqvi urged the public and media to ignore misleading narratives being spread online.
“Some people are uncomfortable seeing politicians, the government, and the military establishment on the same page — they’re spreading disinformation,” Naqvi stated.
He also appealed to media outlets to avoid political speculation during the sacred days of Ashura out of respect for the occasion.
These statements follow a political development where the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) secured a simple majority in the National Assembly after the reinstatement of reserved seats by the Election Commission, boosting the ruling coalition’s strength from 218 to 235 members.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, speaking in Lahore at the Data Darbar shrine, reaffirmed the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) as a vital coalition partner of the PML-N.
“PPP is and will remain our coalition partner. Without PPP’s support, forming the government after the 2024 general elections would not have been possible,” said Dar.
He added that PPP supported the government during difficult times and would continue to be an ally through this period of political stability.
In response to a question, Dar confirmed that PPP has not made any demands for ministerial positions from the PML-N.
