Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has expressed strong optimism about Pakistan Champions’ chances in the upcoming World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025, saying the squad has the potential to go all the way this time.
Speaking ahead of WCL 2025, Afridi said he was “very hopeful” about Pakistan Champions lifting the trophy, pointing to the squad’s chemistry, improved fitness levels, and renewed focus on winning key moments. The team, which features legendary names like Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal, and Wahab Riaz, reached the final of the 2024 edition but fell short against India Champions.
Afridi, who captained the side last year, has now passed on the leadership role to Mohammad Hafeez. “I have full faith in Hafeez’s leadership,” Afridi said. “He’s sharp, composed, and commands a lot of respect in the dressing room.”
The tournament, expected to be held in July 2025 in the UK, will again bring together veteran players from major cricketing nations. Pakistan Champions are reportedly making key adjustments in their bowling and fielding units after identifying areas that cost them in the previous edition.
“It was painful to lose the final last year, especially when we had the game in our hands,” Afridi recalled. “But this time, we’ve worked on the gaps. The energy is different, and the players are determined.”
The 2025 edition will likely feature teams from India, Australia, West Indies, England, and South Africa, alongside Pakistan. With legends returning to competitive action and fan excitement already building, WCL 2025 is shaping up to be one of the year’s most anticipated cricket events.
As Pakistan Champions prepare for another shot at glory, Afridi’s words echo the hope of millions of fans: this could be the year Pakistan legends finally lift the WCL trophy.
