The government has announced a reduction in prices of major petroleum products, effective from December 1, 2025. Under the new rates, petrol price has been lowered by Rs 2 per litre — now Rs 263.45 per litre — while high-speed diesel (HSD) has seen a bigger cut of Rs 4.79 per litre, bringing it down to Rs 279.65.
Officials said the reductions follow recommendations by the regulatory authorities and adjustments to global oil price trends. The relief is expected to ease the burden on motorists and transporters, especially as costs for transport and goods distribution had surged.
Consumers have welcomed the announcement, calling it a much-needed relief amid rising inflation. Analysts warn, however, that sustained benefit will depend on stability in global markets and careful management of taxes and levies.
