Authorities have started the registration of diabetes patients in Rawalpindi under the Chief Minister Punjab’s door to door insulin supply program.
Along with this, home delivery of insulin has also begun for 35 registered patients with type one diabetes.
According to the District Health Authority, during a diabetes awareness campaign it was explained that type one diabetes is a lifelong disease in which the body completely stops producing insulin. Insulin plays a vital role in transporting sugar present in the blood to the body’s cells to generate energy.
Health officials warned that in the absence of insulin, blood sugar levels can rise to dangerous levels, which can prove to be life threatening.
District Health Officer Dr Hafiz Muhammad Jawad said that patients with type two diabetes can often control their blood sugar through dietary precautions, physical activity, medications, and in some cases insulin. He clarified that not every patient with type two diabetes requires insulin.
He further stated that health department teams are following approved procedures for the identification, verification, and registration of patients, and that complete records are being maintained with strict monitoring of the cold chain during insulin delivery.
