The federal government has approved handing over the operations of Islamabad International Airport to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) under a government-to-government (G2G) agreement.
The decision was taken during a Cabinet Committee meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. A negotiation committee, led by the adviser on privatisation, will finalise the terms with input from defence, finance and law ministries.
Officials said the move aims to improve efficiency and service standards at loss-making state assets by attracting foreign partners. Islamabad Airport, inaugurated in 2018, has faced financial and operational challenges, and outsourcing is expected to boost investor confidence and operational expertise.
