Govt Signals Possible Treason Case Against Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: The government has indicated that a treason case against PTI founder Imran Khan is now a strong possibility, as Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah said the option “cannot be ruled out.” He revealed that authorities are reviewing multiple recent developments that triggered the forceful statement issued by the DG ISPR.

Speaking on ARY News’ programme Khabar, Sanaullah said the government is examining Imran Khan’s recent actions, social media posts, and statements from his family. He added that despite a clear assurance before the Adiala Jail meeting that no political message would be issued, a “controversial post” from Imran Khan surfaced shortly after.

Sanaullah clarified that the DG ISPR’s press conference was not coordinated with the government, and they were unaware of what would be said. He noted that intelligence agencies had been monitoring developments since the Jaffer Express incident, observing that Indian, Afghan, and PTI friendly media were promoting the same anti-Pakistan narrative. According to him, this pattern reflects “continued facilitation and links” from past incidents as well.

The adviser said Imran Khan had never allowed political dialogue, maintaining that PM Shehbaz Sharif made multiple efforts for reconciliation, but the PTI founder rejected every attempt. He argued that Imran Khan’s politics “was never democratic,” claiming that even while in power he talked about “eliminating all politicians.”

Warning the party’s leadership, Sanaullah said PTI was moving toward a split similar to the MQM, describing its factions as “PTI Adiala” and “PTI Pakistan.”

Commenting on the DG ISPR’s statement, he said it was firm, clear, and fully supported by the government. He stressed that criticism of the army chief or the institution would not be tolerated especially when soldiers were giving their lives in KP and Balochistan. He added that those who cross red lines would “face consequences.”

Sanaullah concluded that reconciliation with Imran Khan “was never possible,” saying one-sided dialogue cannot happen when the PTI founder “neither wants talks nor allows anyone in his party to talk.”
